Hello scintillating sunny-side friends :)
Today’s post is going to be a collection of my favourite philosophy tweets so let’s go and get traumatised by academia again!! Today’s post is also evidence that I’ve finally learned how to embed tweets properly with Substack (see previous post for evidence of this failure). A lot of these are context-dependent, so if you just want to read about an amazing female philosopher, you can just skip to the bottom.

This thread isn’t very funny or anything, but I thought it was great to read; don’t dull your shine for anyone because male tenured professors will literally wear the worst Giordano polo tees or some nonsense and the bar can’t be lower, it physically cannot:

Finally, here is a link to Dr. Robin Zheng’s research which I’ve included because there are free philosophical articles that you can look into if you’re interested in reading philosophical perspectives concerning important issues like gender dynamics within academia and personal ethics vis-a-vis structural injustice. I know that plenty of philosophers do incredible work like this, but I thought of her while compiling this because I first met her when we organised some conference and she was the guest of honour for it, and she was such an incredible inspiration and was so kind and thoughtful in her speech that I still remember her even though we’ve met a grand total of two times. She also mentioned that she tries to make these papers accessible to the general public, so that nobody has to pay a ludicrous sum just to access them. Philosophy frequently gets a bad reputation for dealing with problems that are so obscure and which appear to have little relevance on the lives of other people in society, but these articles have very tangible and consequential implications for contemporary society and ardently press the question of how we can live ethically in the here and now.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Love,
Julia :)
